On 13 May 2012, Joe Kogan of New York City completed his long solo cross-country flight in Skyhawk 316AS! After several excellent no-go decisions due to low ceilings and high winds in April, Joe had the weather he needed to complete his flight safely. The route he chose was Lincoln Park, NJ (N07) – Allentown, PA (KABE) – PennRidge, PA (KCKZ) – Trenton-Robbinsville, NJ (N87) – N07.

Student Pilot Nick Nicastro of Nutley, NJ, completed his PilotEdge VFR V-02 Rating on 10 April 2012! Nick piloted a Cessna 182 from John Wayne Airport in Orange County, CA (KSNA) to Ontario International Airport in Ontario, CA (KONT), communicating with PilotEdge tower and approach controllers during the entire flight.

Nick did his usual fantastic job with aeronautical decision making, judgment, situational awareness, communications and, of course, flying the simulator to better than Private Pilot Practical Test Standards.

Nick became Aero Safety Training’s first student to complete any PilotEdge rating when he completed his V-01 Rating on 2 January 2012. He is now the first to complete his V-02 Rating. Nick is now practicing for his V-03 Rating, which involves safely and confidently flying at least two of the Los Angeles International (KLAX) Bravo transitions and landing at KLAX.

Rich Kulesa after his FIRST SOLO with Skyhawk N5491J!

Congratulations to Rich Kulesa of Morristown, New Jersey for accomplishing his first solo flight on the morning of 1 April 2012! Rich flew solo for the first time in Skyhawk N5491J with instructor Matt D’Angelo watching proudly from the taxiway! As Pilot-In-Command, Rich made three beautiful takeoff and landings on N07′s Runway 19.

David Lucas with Skyhawk N90559, back on the ground at N07 after their cross-country adventure!

David Lucas, of North Haledon, NJ completed his first solo cross-country flight on 30 March 2012! After reviewing his flight planning with instructor Matt D’Angelo, David successfully navigated Skyhawk N90559 from Lincoln Park ( N07 ) to Sullivan County International ( KMSV ) and back to N07.

David Prieto with Skyhawk N5491J at N07 after their long solo cross-country adventure!

On the morning of Sunday, 4 March 2012, David Prieto of Fair Lawn, NJ completed his long solo cross-country flight! The route David chose was N07 – KOXC – KSWF – N07. David had a nice flight with a good amount of air traffic at both towered airports he visited: Waterbury-Oxford, CT (KOXC) and Stewart International, NY (KSWF). As usual, David maintained situational awareness and knew where all the other planes were at all times. Very well done, David!

Walter Lamerton and N5491J after their long solo cross-country adventure!

Walter Lamerton of Ridgewood, NJ completed his long solo cross-country flight Saturday 18 February 2012! The adventure began just after sunrise at Lincoln Park and took Walter and Skyhawk N5491J to Wilkes-Barre, PA (KAVP), then to Orange County, NY (KMGJ) and home to N07.

Sunday 29 January 2012. Several of us from Aero Safety visited the Aviation Hall of Fame of New Jersey, located next to the control tower at Teterboro Airport. If you haven’t been to the Hall of Fame recently, put it on your list of things to do! You will learn something new with each visit.

This visit, I wanted to pay my respects to World War II Ace Pilot Frank Hill, who passed away earlier this month. Mr. Hill flew 166 combat missions over Europe and Africa, during which he downed seven Axis planes. He was the top US Spitfire Ace of the war. He was also reportedly the first American pilot to shoot down a Nazi plane. When Mr. Hill returned to Hillsdale, NJ in 1943, he was greeted by a over 3,000 people with a parade and reception – a true Hero’s welcome home.

When you visit the Hall of Fame, please visit Frank Hill’s plaque to learn more about this World War II Hero and New Jersey native.

Scott Parsons First Solo!

Scott Parsons of Upper Montclair, NJ, flew solo for the first time on 30 December 2011! Scott took off and landed from N07′s Runway 19 beautifully as Pilot In Command of Skyhawk N5491J.  Flight Instructor Matt D’Angelo watched with delight from the taxiway.

Congratulations to Student Pilot David Prieto of Fair Lawn, NJ for successfully completing his first solo cross-country flight! On the afternoon of 18 December, after reviewing his flight planning with instructor Matt D’Angelo, David departed from Lincoln Park ( N07 ) enroute to Sullivan County International ( KMSV ). David had great weather along his route of flight and did an excellent job navigating to and from KMSV. He also maintained sharp situational awareness amongst heavier than usual air traffic at both airports. He completed the day’s adventure with a beautiful landing on Runway 01 at N07.
